The term is used to describe both the draw hand and the bow hand drawing style. Also called Mongolian style draw, it utlizes your thumb of your drawing hand, and rests the arrow on the thumb knuckle of the bow hand. Some folks only do one or the other. I plan to shift my drawing style to do both since I own a Mongol bow.
The bow hand thumb draw. Most archers draw off a shelf, or off the other side, on the pointer finger knuckle. As you can see here, the arrow rests on the thumb knuckle. My concern was the arrow wagging off the hand, but after playing with the thumb draw I realized that the arrow has surprising stability due to how the knock and string are held. I will be trying this next week. |
