The Martial peerage
Above is an image of the different styles of favor that you might see on those who support the idea of another Peerage. Within the SCA, you can be recognized for your accomplishments in Arts, Service, Chivalry, and Rapier/Slash & parry *Defense.* This is all well and good, wonderful in fact that people can be given recognition for their efforts in those areas. However it leaves a gap, a fairly large gap, filled with thousands of SCA members that focus their talents on martial aspects which do not receive recognition.
There is a growing group of people which support the idea of a 5th Peerage within the SCA. This Omnibus Martial peerage, being called "The order of Valiance," would cover those aspects which have been left behind. It would also allow for additions if new forms of martial arts are added to the SCA's activities.
Currently, the proposal includes: Equestrian, Archery, siege, Thrown weapons.
I support this proposal due to my past experience in Equestrian, and my current interest in archery. Not for me to try to gain, (although that would be nice eventually) but for all those in the SCA whom I feel are worthy of this achievement. So often these people are left out because no-one knows exactly where to put them. In equestrian for example, would a person be recognized for the idea that they turned riding into a beautiful art form, or for the fact that they can hit a target from a horse at full gallop? In archery would they be recognized for their ability to make Bows and arrows from scratch, or for the fact that they can hit a target at 20, 30, 40 or even 100 yards? Where do these masters of their chosen discipline fit?

Long term goals in SCA
First off, I know that it will take years of practice and patience to achieve the goals I am setting here. They are long term goals. Any chosen discipline takes a lifetime to master. It takes drive and focus, ambition and strength, humility and determination.
- Archery: To become a high ranked, experienced Archer. Someone whom others can go to for assistance. To become well versed in the tools of the trade, able to make incredibly high quality arrows for myself an others. To eventually be able to incorporate my Equestrian experience into this martial form, shooting with accuracy from horseback or horse drawn chariot.
- Arts: To create my own clothing, and clothing for my family. With great attention to detail and accuracy to period styles.
- Service: To be comfortable teaching others the things I have learned. Giving back to the Society via teaching, education and volunteer time.
