We had a fun evening shooting at Santiago nature preserve Thursday. We stayed at 20 yards since there were several other archers on the range. My munchkin is still using the "First shot" bow, and at 8 pounds draw, it cannot make the 20 yard target with her draw length. So we set up a target for her at about 10 yards.
She did great today, Killed 2 balloons and was consistently hitting the target. In the images below she is taking a fun break, shooting high to see how far she can send the arrows. She currently has 4 wood arrows, and was incredibly proud of herself when she got all 4 on target. Im the target image below, there are 3 in the red, and the forth bounced off the balloon it popped.

Hubby is developing his form and aim very nicely. Since we need to make him some arrows, he is using mine. Most of the day we split them up, I took 4 and he took 5. He was getting fairly consistent scores in the teens on 5 arrows all evening. My 4 were hitting in the reds and yellows most of the time. I think i have finally dialed in my 20 yard aim. The real test will be Sunday in point rounds. At the end of the day, we started switching off, so that one of us was shooting more per round.
I bought a thumb guard to try thumb draw. I use a Mongolian bow, and Mongolian traditional archers draw with the thumb. In fact about half of the videos I watched showed them resting the arrow on their thumb instead of knuckles too. I like the idea of a thumb draw because I tend to get numbness in my middle finger by the end of practice. A thumb draw might fix that problem.
I used the thumb guard to draw 3 times. Thats it, 3. I must be doing something wrong because I thought my thumb was on fire from the string. Its just a basic leather thumb tab, so perhaps I need a solid ring, or a thumb glove? I will look into it more, perhaps have someone who knows how to do it help me. The shots were decent, even if it hurt like a son of a gun. So it obviously wont change my aim and form much.
