One of the more unique pieces of garb that Slavic women wore was temple rings. Like so many other aspects of this culture, it was borrowed, in this case from Byzantine. Like the majority of married Christian or Catholic women from this era, a head cover was standard. Each culture had their own name for it, but across the board, it was expected that a married woman covered her head.
Some cultures would have decorative lace, bead-work, or embroidery. Higher classes would sometimes have a totally different style or color. Slavic women has a headband and temple rings. Archaeologists have found these rings in Slavic Graves. Below are some images of various examples.

As you can see, they could be very simple, or incredibly large or fancy. Usually made from some form of base metal like brass or copper, with the occasional silver or gold.
Here is where I will deviate a bit. I want to put charms with my temple rings. Things that show my interests. So the first piece will be a small silver stylized horse. I am also going to buy some heavy wire and make some spirals, and perhaps symbols for my SCA Kingdom or Barony. I have not decided yet if they will be in a row along the headband, or hanging down. Perhaps both? What do you think? |
Once it is complete I will post a pic of it in my photo Gallery.
